NORTHEAST NORTHWEST CENTRAL THE RECORD, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18, 1978 BERGEN COUNTY, NEW JERSEY 40 Arthur Ewans, ex-West N.Y. police captain PALISADES PARK Arthur Ewans, a former West New York police captain, died yesterday at Bergen Pines County Hospital, Paramus. He was 67. He was born 1 in Guttenberg and had lived in Paramus 12 years before moving to Palisades Park last June. Mr.

Ewans retired from his police post in 1962. He had entered the department in 1946 and was promoted to captain in 1958. After retiring, he became chief of security at Klopman Mills in the Rockleigh Industrial Park. Mr. Ewans was a member of PBA Local 88.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mabel De Sena; a daughter, Joan Bellow of Pearl River, N.Y., and three grandchildren. Mass will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Matthews R.C. Church, Ridgefield, with burial in Fairview Cemetery.

Timpone was a resident of Teaneck for 45 years. Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Celano of Suffern, N.Y.; five sons, Joseph of Middletown, N.Y., Anthony and Daniel, both of Teaneck, Phillip of Paramus, and 1 Peter of Englewood; two brothers, Daniel Basile on Long Island and Joseph Basile of Cliffside Park, and eight grandchildren. McMahon Jones, 51, died Monday at Hackensack Hospital. Born in Scotland, Mrs. Jones came to the United States in 1929. She had lived in Edgewater before moving to Paramus in 1960. She was a retired claims taker at the state unemployment office in Hackensack.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation R.C. Church. Surviving are her husband, Forrest; a son, George of Paramus; a sister, Margaret Shields of River Vale; and two brothers, John McMahon of Edgewater and Peter McMahon of Cleveland. Mass will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the church, with burial in Mount mel Cemetery, Tenafly.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Lauterborn had lived in Hasbrouck Heights since 1929. He was a plant service supervisor of installation for New Jersey Bell for 43 years until his retirement in 1958. He was a member of Corpus Christi R.C. Church, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Surviving are a daughter, Alice Salem of Sewickley, a son, David of Toms River; two sisters, Ruth O'Neill and Hazel Carlton of Forked River, and five grandchildren. His wife, the former Cecelia Costello, died in December. Mass will be tomorrow at noon at the church, with burial in George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Anna Kure Eriov ROCHELLE PARK Anna Kure Erlov, 81, died Monday at Saddle Brook Hospital. Born in Stare Sandur, Austria, Mrs. Eriov came to the United States in 1911 and settled in West New York. She moved to Rochelle Park in 1955. She was a member of Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, Garfield.

Surviving are her husband, William; a daughter, Marie Eriov at home; a son, Alex of Saddle Brook, and two grandchildren. Grace E. Manley FORT LEE Grace E. Manley, 79, died Sunday in Hackensack Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Ridgewood many years before moving to Fort Lee. Miss Manley was an accountant for 26 years with Metropolitan Life in New York, retiring in 1957.

Surviving are a sister, Ruth B. of Fort Lee; a brother, Walter K. of Haworth, and several nieces and nephews. Services will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. in the Quirk Funeral Home, 74 Kinderkamack Road, Cresskill.

Mr. Mazzocchi was born in Italy and came to this country in 1958. He had lived in Fair Lawn 18 years.

He was a yard foreman for Beach Concrete Company, Paramus. Mr. Mazzocchi was a member of St. Anne's R.C. Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Betty Knight; three sons, Michael, Peter, and Robert, all at home; two daughters, Janita and Angela, both at home; two brothers, Dante in Italy and Pino in Great Britian; and a sister, Cisa Mazzocchi in Italy. Mrs. Rohlfs was born in New York City and had lived in Ridgefield Park for 50 years. Surviving are four sons, William G. of Clearwater, Walter, a retired Ridgefield Park police sergeant, Richard, also of Ridgefield Park, and Charles of Mahwah; a sister, Georganna Harz of Ridgefield Park; 22 grandchildren, and seven grandchildren. Marie Garson NORTH ARLINGTON Marie Garson, 74, died Monday at home. Mrs. Garsen, born in Poland, had lived in Jersey City 58 years and North Arlington eight. She was a parishioner of St. Michael's R.C.

Church, Lyndhurst. Surviving are three daughters, Ann Puglisi of North Arlington, Marion Saray of Lyndhurst, and Eleanor Santeramo of Ridgefield Park, and eight grandchildren. Her husband, James, died in 1969. Mass will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the church, with burial in Holy Cross Cemetery.

John was graduated from Hillcrest Academy of the Lutheran Brethren Schools at Fergus Falls, last June. Surviving are his parents, John and Emilie Samuelsen; a brother, Stanley; two sisters, Judy MacDonald and Janet Andrea Samuelsen, and his maternal grandmother, Anne Nilsen, both in Norway. Joseph Polioka GARFIELD Joseph Polioka, 60, died Monday at home. A lifelong resident of Garfield, he was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. Mr.

Polioka worked at the Bergen County Courthouse. He previously had been employed with Okonite Co. in Passaic for more than 20 years. Mr. Polioka was a member of St.

Peter and Paul's Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Passaic. Surviving are two sisters, Anna Cannizzo of Sussex and Mary Duchak of Midland Park. Services will be tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. at the church, with burial in St. Peter's Cemetery.

John L. Helmuth TENAFLY Services were Monday for John L. Helmuth, 64, who died Thursday in Mount Sinai Hospital, New York. Mr. Helmuth was a senior investment analyst for the Trust and Investment Division of Chemical Bank, New York City, where he had been employed 40 years.

A 1934 graduate of Harvard, he was a member of the Harvard Club of New York City. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and a member of the New Society of Security Analysts, and the Transportation Association of America. He belonged to the Palisades Nature Association and was a counselor for a Boy Scout troop also. Suviving are his wife, Shirley, and two sons, Robert and Richard, both of Tenafly. Services were in the Boulevard-Park West Funeral Home, New York, with burial in Beth El Cemetery, Maspeth, N.Y.

Donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Verna B. Pettit MECHANICSBURG, Pa. Verna B. Pettit died Monday in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, Pa.

Mrs. Pettit was born in New Cumberland, and had lived i in Teaneck and Oradell before moving to Mechanicsburg. She was a piano teacher in Teaneck and Oradell. Surviving are her husband, Theodore two daughters, Almeda Steigerwalt of New Cumberland and Della Leiter of Shiremanstown, and a brother, Clark E. Bair of Camp Hill.

Born in Union City, she had lived in Philmont, N.Y., before moving to Teaneck in 1941. She had retired from Hackensack Hospital as a dietary assistant. Surviving are a son, Willis Bott of Teaneck; a brother, Robert of Saddle River; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Services will be private. Arrangements are by Petrik Funeral Home, Bogota. Albert Russo GLEN ROCK Albert Russo, 67, of 6 Southboro Lane, died Monday in North Miami, Fla. From 1930 to 1960, Mr. Russo was a partner in the Time Diner on Straight Street in Paterson. He was born in Paterson and lived most of his life in Hawthorne.

He moved to Glen Rock six ago. He was a member of St. Anthony's R.C. Church, Hawthorne. Surviving are three sons, Joseph of Sarasota, James of Paramus, and Edward of Sussex; and three sisters, Mrs.

She was the owner of I. and P. Schiff, Jewelers, Passaic. Mrs. Schiff was born in Poland and came to this country in 1908.

She lived in New York City before moving to Passaic 45 years ago. Mrs. Schiff was a member of Hiaf, the Workmen's Circle, and the Daughters of Miriam. She also belonged to the Passaic-Clifton YM-YWHA Golden Circle and was a member of Congregation Tiferat Israel, Passaic. Surviving are a son, Morton of Passaic; two daughters, Loretta Rubin of Paramus and Rosalyn Eisenberg of Lake Worth, and seven grandchildren.

Services were yesterday in the Jewish Memorial Chapel, with burial in King of Solomon Cemetery, Clifton. Salvatore Nitopi NORTHVALE Salvatore Nitopi, 82, States in 1911. Mr. Nitopi joined the Italian Army during World War I. He returned to the United States in 1919 settling in Englewood.

He had been a resident of Northvale 15 years. Mr. Nitopi worked with the Englewood Road Department for 30 years, retiring in 1961. He was a member of St. Anthony's R.C.

Church and the Golden Age Club of Northvale. Born in Italy, he came to the United John Nowak GARFIELD Mass will be tomorrow for John Nowak, 81, who died Monday in Passaic General Hospital, Prior to his retirement 17 years ago, Mr. Nowak was a custodian for Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford. A Garfield resident for 23 years, he was born in Poland.

He was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka R.C. Church and a member of Polish War Veterans Post 46 of Passaic. He also was a past officer of Centrala of Passaic and a former president of the Second District, Polish Army Veterans, of New York. Mr.

Nowak was a former director of the Polish People's Home in Passaic and a former president of the New Life Society of America. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Union of America. Surviving are his wife, Eva Iskra Nowak; three daughters, Mrs. Valentine Opalka, Mrs. Wanda Maciag, and Mrs.

Patrick Przybylski, all of Garfield; a brother and two sisters, in Poland; six grandchildren, and four great children. Mass will be at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery, Lodi.

Mrs. Andronico, a lifelong resident of Hackensack, and her husband, Stellario, owned Andronico Greenhouses, Hackensack.

Her husband died in 1959; Mrs. Andronico retired in 1967. Surviving are a son, Stellaris of East Brunswick; four sisters, Mae Bracco of Rutherford, Josephine Gianella of Rochelle Park, Gene Natalo of River Edge, and Madge De Hart of Carlstadt, and a granddaughter. George H. Bennett FORKED RIVER George Henry Bennett, 73, died yesterday at Community Memorial Hospital in Toms River. Born in Jersey City, he lived in WoodRidge before moving to Forked River in 1968. Mr. Bennett was a truck driver for 30 years with White Scarver Trucking Carlstadt, retiring in 1968.

He was a member of Teamsters local 560, Carlstadt, the AARP Senior Citizens, and the Old Guard of Forked River. Mr. Bennett was a communicant of St. Pius R.C. Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Rose McNeil; two daughters, Kathleen Clayton of the Netherlands, and Veronica Newman of Northridge, and four grandchildren.
